The Circle of the Mihrab

Inspired by the historic medallion first found on the façade of Jame al-Aqmar, this work draws upon the sacred geometry and visual language of Fatimid art. At its heart are the names Mohammed and Ali, surrounded by intricate Kufic calligraphy incorporating Qur'an 33:33, concentric ornamentation, and floral motifs. Layers of gold and warm earthen textures reinterpret this historic Fatimid design in a contemporary form.
